July 8

September 9
October 14
November 11

The committee meets jointly with the Bellevue Chamber's Transportation committee on the second Tuesday of each month, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at the Chamber's office at 302 Bellevue Square in Downtown Bellevue.

The Joint Transportation Committee is open to all BDA members interested in transportation issues affecting Downtown Bellevue and the Puget Sound region. From roads to transit and everything in between, this is the place to learn about issues, track measures through the decision and design processes, advocate for transportation adequacy to maintain a healthy business climate, and monitor progress of projects under construction. Working collaboratively with Chamber members, this group formulates policy statements and recommendations concerning these issues and acts as a regional partner with transportation agencies for improving mobility and reducing congestion. Committee guests include transportation decision-makers from the local to the federal level.

BDA Transportation Committee Meetings (Downtown Focus)

May 21
July 2: 7:30-9 a.m.

The BDA's Downtown Transportation Committee, co-chaired by David Schooler (SRO) and Shiv Batra (INCA Engineers), is designed to supplement the regular joint Chamber/BDA Transportation Committee meetings with a detailed look at transportation issues related specifically to Downtown Bellevue, such as the DIP projects, I-405 interchanges with downtown, Great Streets, the Downtown Circulator, etc.

The committee's 2008 focus will be to engage in an informed discussion among downtown stakeholders and the City about our transportation future, planned projects and perspectives on future trip demand and how to accomodate it. Based on this work, committee members will assist in developing policy recommendations for the BDA Board of Directors to implement in its advocacy and outreach efforts. This is a great opportunity for our members to be tied in more directly to the changes in Downtown Bellevue, and to provide key feedback for the BDA Board of Directors.

BDA High Capacity Transit (HCT) Task Force

May 20
June 24: 3-5:30 p.m.

This committee, new for 2008 and chaired by Sue Baugh, will expand the BDA's capability to interact in the planning and implementation stages of a potential new corridor for High Capacity Transit that would pass through Downtown Bellevue. The HCT Task Force will meet as needed with two near-term emphases: first to engage with the City of Bellevue on its Light Rail Best Practices (LRBP) process; and second, to interface with Sound Transit through issuance of the East Link Draft Environment Impact Statement (Fall 2008). This Task Force will assist in determining impacts of potential HCT implementation on downtown properties and businesses, and identifying tradeoffs associated with various alternatives for routing, alignment, station location, etc.

This is a prime opportunity for our members to learn more about how the East Link project under consideration may impact their property or business. Likewise, it will provide a way for your voice to be heard as part of the Downtown Bellevue dialogue about this potential regional solution and how it is implemented in Bellevue. This group will inform the BDA Board of Directors, and ultimately the City of Bellevue and Sound Transit about the interests of the downtown community.

Primarily comprised of developers, architects, builders and brokers, this group reviews problems or potential changes in current land use and building codes, and works to carry forward ideas from the Downtown Implementation Plan and the 2004 Urban Design Charrette. The task Force monitors development activity in Downtown Bellevue and nearby areas.

The Committee, with Scott Robertson and Brian Brand as co-chairs, is meeting on a bi-weekly schedule as it accelerates aworkplan around potential Land Use Code amendment recommendations.
