Yes, employers can request an employee co-pay of up to 50% of the cost of the FlexPass. Employees can use pre-tax dollars to pay for any contribution.

Can an employer purchase FlexPasses for only the employees who use transit?
No, the program requires that a pass be purchased for every employee in the company.

Can bus riders purchase a FlexPass for themselves?
No, the FlexPass can only be sold to employers for distribution to their employees.

Is a FlexPass valid on a three-zone bus or the Sounder commuter rail?
The fare value of a FlexPass is $4.75. An employee can use the pass for any King County Metro or Sound Transit fare up to that amount, including the Sounder commuter rail and all express service.

Can an employer expense this purchase?
Yes, the IRS allows employers to provide up to $110 per month per employee in a transit or vanpool subsidy as a tax deductible expense. In addition, expenditures on employee alternative commute benefits, up to $60 per employee, can be applied against an employer’s B&O or utility taxes (www.dor.wa.gov).

Can an employer purchase additional or replacement passes?
Yes. Additional passes can be purchased throughout the year at a set rate for each month remaining on an employer’s contract. Lost passes can be replaced once for a $50 fee.
